The International Olympic Committee announced on the 9th that the Organizing Committee of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics has proposed to the IOC Olympic Games Committee five new sports, namely baseball and softball, cricket, baton, squash, and flag rugby. According to the regulations of the International Olympic Committee, the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games first submits an application for a new major event to the Olympic Project Committee of the International Olympic Committee. The Olympic Project Committee will discuss this and recommend it to the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee. After accepting this recommendation, the Executive Board will report to the International Olympic Committee plenary session, and the final decision will be decided by the vote of the International Olympic Committee plenary session. The International Olympic Committee will hold its 141st plenary session in Mumbai, India from October 15th to 17th. If the plenary session ultimately agrees to add these five major events, the specific sub events and athlete quotas for these major events will be confirmed in the following. The International Olympic Committee stated that according to the Olympic Agenda 2020+5 and the Olympic Charter, each Olympic Games has a certain degree of flexibility in terms of setting up events to enhance the innovation and sustainability of the Olympics, and continuously promote gender balance. The Tokyo Olympics included baseball and softball, karate, skateboarding, rock climbing, and surfing as new sports, while the 2024 Paris Olympics added breakdancing, skateboarding, rock climbing, and surfing as new sports.
