The African Union Development Agency New Partnership for Africa's Development, the Chinese Mission to the African Union and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, together with the African Agricultural Technology Foundation, the Kenyan National Innovation Agency, the Kenyan Jomo Kenyatta Agricultural Technology University, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the China Africa Innovation Cooperation Center, jointly released the initiative of "Strengthening China Africa led scientific and technological innovation and promoting sustainable development in Africa" on the 27th. This initiative has been unanimously recognized by over a hundred scientists from China and Africa. According to the initiative, all participants in China and Africa will jointly launch the "African Food Water Environment Protection and Development Science Action Plan", establish a mechanism for scientific and technological innovation cooperation and exchange between Chinese scientific and educational institutions, African Union Development Agency, and international organizations, thereby strengthening scientific and technological innovation cooperation, sharing and application of achievements, capacity building, and talent cultivation among all parties, and making contributions to food security, water resource security, and biodiversity protection in Africa. In the initiative, both China and Africa jointly proposed priorities for scientific and educational innovation cooperation in fields such as food production, water resource management, and biodiversity conservation from 2024 to 2027, including strengthening agricultural scientific and technological innovation, promoting the transformation and upgrading of agricultural production methods, and improving the efficiency and quality of food production; Provide technical support and training to help farmers master modern agricultural technology and management methods, and improve their agricultural production capacity; Innovative biodiversity monitoring methods and research methods; Strengthen scientific research and monitoring of water resources and water environment, and promote sustainable utilization and management of water resources. The initiative suggests that in promoting food security, biodiversity conservation, and scientific management of water resources in Africa, an international forum should be held alternately between China and Africa every three years to exchange scientific and technological innovation achievements, evaluate the effectiveness of technological applications, and adjust priority development directions. From the 25th to the 27th of this month, China and Africa held a seminar on "South South Cooperation: Forum on Science and Technology Cooperation and Innovation for Africa's Social and Economic Development" in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. More than 100 scientists from universities, scientific research institutions and international organizations from China, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Tanzania, Egypt and other African countries along the "the Belt and Road" gathered to discuss issues such as food production transformation, biodiversity conservation and scientific management of water resources.
