Watering the Flower of Innovation and Building a New Pattern of Socialized Science Popularization Development - Observation of the 2023 National Science Popularization Day Home Activity
2023-09-29
On September 24th, the 20th National Science Popularization Day home event came to an end. Over the course of a week, at the main venue of the event, Beijing Shougang Park, the industrial site carried hardcore technology, and top technological achievements were showcased as "within reach" science popularization exhibits, igniting a strong passion for and advocating science among the public, especially young people. The theme of this year's National Science Popularization Day home event is "Improving the Scientific Quality of the Whole People, Helping Science and Technology Self reliance and Self strengthening", co hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology, Beijing Municipal Government, and others. During the event, 360 exhibitions and activities from 104 units nationwide, including the CE-5T1 Returner, lunar soil objects, the "Material Probe" synchrotron radiation interaction device, and the High Altitude Cosmic Ray Observatory Large Science Device, gathered at Shougang Park. At the event site, there were five exhibition areas, including "Leading the Way to Make Brilliance", "Confident and Self reliant Dream", "Science and Technology Benefits People's Livelihood", "Science Popularization Carnival", and "Science Education Addition", attracting a large audience. Over 20 special areas, including the outdoor emergency science popularization experience area, international science communication and exchange area, and the metaverse VR experience space, were well received by everyone, showcasing the achievements of China's scientific and technological innovation and popularization in various aspects. The power of science popularization opens up the "last mile" of science communication. "Do you know how to 'check up' the Terra Cotta Warriors?" Zhu Lei, professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Civil and Transportation Engineering of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, demonstrated to children at the event site how to use 3D laser scanning to do a "check up" on the Terra Cotta Warriors. With the help of point cloud processing technology, mechanical calculation and other means, professionals can scan Terra Cotta Warriors fragments and use algorithms to improve the splicing speed of Terra Cotta Warriors fragments. "We hope to integrate the scientific research and protection of the Terra Cotta Warriors into the work of science popularization, so that the public can have an all-round and multi angle understanding of the protection of the Terra Cotta Warriors," Zhu Lei said. Scientific researchers' lectures on science popularization have become a unique scenic spot for this year's National Science Popularization Day home event. Professional terms in various fields have become easy to understand and better understood and absorbed by the public through their in-depth explanations. In the era of knowledge economy, the innovation level of a country is increasingly dependent on the general improvement of the scientific literacy of the entire population. The level of science popularization in a country is increasingly affecting its creativity and soft power. Advanced technological achievements can only be understood and accepted by the public through scientific popularization, thereby promoting social development and improving people's lives. The deepening of scientific popularization can also make the scientific spirit and innovative culture more deeply rooted in people's hearts. The National Science Popularization Day is an important science popularization activity that implements the Law on Science and Technology Popularization, mobilizes scientific and technological workers and all sectors of society to participate in and participate in science popularization, directly facing and serving the public. Since 2004, it has been continuously held for 20 years, with over 400000 key science popularization activities held by various departments in various regions. In recent years, China's science and technology museums, science and technology museums, and grassroots science popularization facilities have developed rapidly. According to data from China Science Popularization Statistics, there were 1677 science and technology museums and science museums in China in 2021, an increase of 152 compared to 2020, and the exhibition hall area increased by 13.03%. During the 2023 National Science Popularization Day event, which coincides with the 35th anniversary of the opening of the China Science and Technology Museum, the museum plans to launch the "Advancing Science Popularization New Campaign"
