History/Details: In 1861, Shamen became a British and French concession. After the sale of Shamen as a concession area, a series of construction projects were carried out in England and France. Due to past typhoons, the trees in Shamian have been greatly damaged. The then British Consul in Guangzhou and Chairman of the Shamian Council wrote a letter to the Governor General of Hong Kong requesting the gift of "young trees and some shrubs to fill the damaged trees and greenery". The planting area includes the surrounding areas of Shamian Island, sidewalks, intersections, and parks.
