On September 21st, the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the economic performance of the communication industry in the first eight months of this year. Overall, the revenue and total volume of telecommunications services have maintained stable growth. From January to August, the cumulative revenue of telecommunications business reached 1141.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. The total telecommunications business volume, calculated based on unchanged prices last year, increased by 16.6% year-on-year. The revenue from fixed internet broadband services is steadily increasing. From January to August, the three basic telecommunications companies achieved internet broadband business revenue of 174.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.3%, accounting for 15.2% of telecommunications business revenue, an increase of 0.1 percentage points compared to January to July, driving a growth of 1.1 percentage points in telecommunications business revenue. Mobile data traffic business revenue is growing at a low rate. From January to August, three basic telecommunications companies achieved mobile data traffic revenue of 443.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%, accounting for 38.8% of telecommunications revenue, driving a 0.2 percentage point increase in telecommunications revenue. Emerging business revenue maintains rapid growth. Three basic telecommunications companies are actively developing emerging businesses such as cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things, and internet data centers. From January to August, they achieved a total revenue of 239.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.9%, accounting for 21% of telecommunications revenue, driving a growth of 3.5 percentage points in telecommunications revenue. Among them, the year-on-year growth rates of cloud computing and big data revenue reached 35.4% and 44.8% respectively, while the revenue of IoT business increased by 24.8% year-on-year. The revenue from voice services continues to decline. From January to August, the three basic telecommunications companies achieved fixed voice and mobile voice business revenue of 12.64 billion yuan and 75.92 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 9% and 1.9%, respectively. They accounted for a total of 7.8% of telecommunications business revenue, a year-on-year decrease of 0.6 percentage points. In terms of user development, cellular IoT users are growing rapidly. As of the end of August, three basic telecommunications companies have developed 2.177 billion cellular IoT end users, a net increase of 332 million compared to the end of the previous year, accounting for 55.9% of the total number of mobile network terminal connections (including mobile phone users and cellular IoT end users). Among them, the scale of IoT terminals applied to public services, the Internet of Vehicles, smart retail, and smart home has reached 700 million, 440 million, 320 million, and 240 million households, respectively. In addition, the construction of gigabit fiber optic broadband networks and 5G networks continues to advance. As of the end of August, the number of 10G PON ports with gigabit network service capabilities reached 21.44 million, a net increase of 6.207 million compared to the end of the previous year.
