New progress in research on long-life zinc ion batteries

Recently, the reporter learned from Shenyang University of Technology that Professor Wu Xiang's team has developed a new type of positive electrode material, which has increased the cycling life of zinc ion batteries to 6500 times, effectively improving the short lifespan of zinc ion batteries. This will further drive the research on zinc ion batteries towards maturity and provide new solutions for the development of sustainable energy. The positive electrode material plays a decisive role in the working voltage, capacity, and stability of the battery, and is the key to the research of the entire zinc ion battery. Therefore, it is very important to develop positive electrode materials for zinc ion batteries with high capacity and long cycle stability. Professor Wu Xiang's team used hydrothermal method to composite two materials with different structures and found that the interface formed inside the positive electrode material provides more channels for zinc ion transport, which is conducive to rapid charge transfer and improves the electrode specific capacity. In addition, the electrode material greatly reduces the difficulty of rapid migration of zinc ions and improves the overall performance of zinc ion batteries. Wu Xiang introduced that as a type of zinc ion battery, water-based zinc ion batteries have always been a hot research topic at home and abroad. The optimized water-based zinc ion battery has a high energy density, which is nearly twice that of ordinary water-based zinc ion batteries. This also means that at the same weight or volume, the energy stored can be nearly twice that of a regular battery, making it very suitable for use in mobile devices and electric vehicles. At the same time, the longer cycle life also makes it more reliable and safe during use. In the future, we will also develop water-based zinc ion batteries for use under extreme conditions such as minus 40 degrees Celsius, "said Wu Xiang. (New News Agency)
