Skipping breakfast is "unfriendly" to the gallbladder

In gastroenterology and general surgery, patients often seek medical attention due to long-term bloating or sudden upper abdominal pain, including those with irregular meals. The reason for these symptoms is often caused by small stones in the gallbladder. So, what are the reasons for the formation of gallstones? Is Eating Irregularly Really Easy to Get Gallstones? Cholesterol gallstones are the most common disease worldwide. Gallstones are a very common disease. According to statistics, approximately 10% -20% of adults worldwide will suffer from gallstones, and another 20% of patients will experience clinical symptoms including biliary colic or infection throughout their lives. Therefore, in clinical practice, diseases caused by symptoms or complications caused by gallstones in the gallbladder or bile duct are collectively referred to as gallstones. Gallstones refer to gallbladder or biliary tract lumps caused by elevated levels of cholesterol or bilirubin in the bile. Simply put, gallstones form when the concentration of cholesterol in bile exceeds the ability of bile to maintain it in solution. In bile, cholesterol becomes soluble by combining with bile salts and phospholipids in the form of mixed micelles and vesicles. However, when there are problems with cholesterol metabolism or content, cholesterol cannot be dissolved and forms the core part of stones. From the perspective of composition, over 90% of gallstones are mainly composed of cholesterol. Cholesterol stones usually appear yellow, yellowish white, or light brown, with a smooth surface and no obvious rough or irregular parts. The texture is relatively soft, appearing in a circular or elliptical shape. The most common site of gallstones is within the gallbladder, which is often formed due to abnormal bile metabolism and the release of cholesterol, which encapsulates calcium containing bile pigment salts. Common bile duct stones are secondary common bile duct stones formed when small stones in the gallbladder contract and fall into the common bile duct. However, the incidence rate of intrahepatic bile duct stones is not high, which is generally due to the local bile stasis of congenital biliary anatomy variation or the stimulation of parasites. Among them, common bile duct stones can easily block the necessary path for bile to flow into the intestine, causing obstructive jaundice, liver dysfunction, cholangitis, etc., which poses a relatively greater threat to the human body. Irregular diet can easily lead to cholestasis. Patients in outpatient clinics often ask, "Is it true that skipping breakfast can lead to gallstones? From a medical perspective, skipping breakfast does increase the risk of developing gallstones, as irregular eating can lead to bile accumulation in the gallbladder. Failure to empty the gallbladder in a timely manner can lead to gallbladder congestion, increasing cholesterol saturation in the bile. The regular dietary pattern recommended by doctors is to eat breakfast on time. If breakfast is delayed, it is best to shorten the interval between the next meal. This can improve gallbladder congestion and cholesterol saturation in the bile, which helps to reduce the occurrence of gallstones. The role of a reasonable diet is to reduce the cholesterol saturation of gallbladder bile by preventing the reabsorption of secondary bile acids (metabolites synthesized in the gut during primary bile acid metabolism) in the colon. Eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat can help prevent the occurrence of gallstones, and nuts can also be helpful. However, it should be noted that there is currently no research on the impact of vegetarian diets advocated by some people on gallstones
