2023-09-08
The first "Visiting China: Entering Guangzhou" themed visit event was held in Guangzhou from September 5th to 6th. Four special guests from the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and Pakistan visited cultural landmarks such as Shamian, Yongqing Square, Cantonese Opera Art Museum, Xinghai Concert Hall, South Vietnamese King Museum Palace Exhibition Area, and Guangzhou Cultural Museum New Hall, immersing themselves in the excellent traditional Chinese culture and experiencing the inheritance and promotion of civilization. The visiting delegation first arrived at Shamian Island. The warm autumn sun shines through towering ancient trees, casting mottled reflections on the European style buildings. Guests walk inside this open-air building called the "Museum", experiencing the changes of the past and present, as well as the fleeting passage of time, among the numerous consulates and former sites of foreign companies. Guangzhou is a very special place for cultural exchange and commemoration, "said Joseph Polish, a music educator, academician of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, emeritus dean of Julia College, and CEO of China Affairs during the visit. Previously, he had visited China more than 60 times and played a positive role in deepening cultural exchanges and promoting cooperation in music education between the United States and China. In Polich's view, international communication is crucial. Through interpersonal communication, one can better understand each other, and music is a natural language that everyone can acquire. In May of this year, an orchestra composed of nearly 100 students from 15 music schools both domestically and internationally appeared at Tianjin Julia College, successfully performing multiple works such as "Landscape", "New England Trilogy", and "Firebird: Suite". Polish believes that the combination of Western chords and traditional Chinese instruments has created a very exciting new music genre. I hope to continue working hard to build a cultural bridge between the United States, China, and other countries through art and music. "Passing through the street, guests stopped at the Yongqingfang Intangible Cultural Heritage Block, showcasing traditional handmade artworks such as Lion Dance, Guangxiu, and Guangcai. A series of exquisite enamel handicrafts attracted the attention of sinologist and professor Bai Peilan from the Center for Asian and African Studies at the Mexican Academy. As she walked out of the store carrying souvenirs such as enamel fish, the 90 year old scholar excitedly told the entourage, "I have many friends, and these gifts will be brought back to them." As the founder of Sino studies in Mexico and even Latin America, Bai Peilan has trained a large number of new and even backbone members for Mexican Sino studies, with research interests mainly focused on Chinese history, society, and traditional culture. She told a reporter from China News Agency, "The continuity of civilization is one of the incredible places in China. I was born in Greece, and now Greece, apart from its historical memory, has little to do with the past. The Middle East region once had the Babylonian and Assyrian empires, but they no longer exist. But in China, when you see the same words, the same people, and even the tradition that still exists in some way, you feel very different Luis Antonio Paulino, President of the Confucius Institute at the State University of S ã o Paulo in Brazil, also expressed great interest in this visit. Shuttling through the antique architectural complexes of Lingnan garden style, he listened attentively to the tour guide's explanation of Cantonese opera art, occasionally gazing at the Chinese clothing cabinet and carving on the beams. From the Guangdong Opera Art Museum to the Xinghai Concert Hall, and then to the Palace Exhibition Area of the South Yue King Museum, Guangzhou
