On the 31st, the reporter learned from the 2023 National Science Popularization Day News Conference held by the China Association for Science and Technology that the results of the 12th sampling survey of Chinese citizens' scientific literacy showed that in 2022, the proportion of Chinese citizens possessing scientific literacy reached 12.93%, an increase of 2.37 percentage points from 10.56% in 2020 and 6.73 percentage points from 6.20% in 2015. The continuous and rapid improvement of citizens' scientific literacy level has laid a rich human resource foundation for China to enter the ranks of innovative countries and move forward. The survey shows that over two-thirds of provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government) in China have citizens with scientific literacy levels exceeding 10%. Compared with 2020, the scientific literacy level of citizens in the eastern, central, and western regions of China has significantly improved, with increases of 2.04, 1.84, and 1.83 percentage points, respectively. The growth rate of scientific literacy among rural residents is higher than that of urban residents. In 2022, the proportion of urban and rural residents possessing scientific literacy reached 15.94% and 7.96% respectively, further alleviating the imbalance in urban and rural development of citizens' scientific literacy. The scientific literacy level of citizens of all age groups in China has significantly improved. In 2022, the scientific literacy levels of citizens aged 18-29 and 30-39 reached 24.26% and 16.77% respectively. The respondents of this survey are Chinese citizens aged 18 to 69. The survey is mainly conducted through sampling household interviews, combined with quota online sample push. (New News Agency)
