Inheritors of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Tibet: Make "Colorful Rainbow Clothes" More Vivid
2023-08-29
Jade, "Wuduo", robes... In the workshop of Nula Elderly in Gaize County, Ali Prefecture, Tibet, the colorful and unique Senguo clothing has attracted many customers. The Senguo clothing with a long history is mainly made of five colors: red, green, black, yellow, and blue, and is known as the "colorful rainbow clothing" by the locals. In 2013, Senguo Clothing was listed as an intangible cultural heritage in the Tibet Autonomous Region. The 66-year-old Nura is one of the inheritors of Senguo's clothing production technology, and his family has been proficient in this intangible cultural heritage technique since his great grandfather. Selecting raw materials, adjusting colors, and sewing by hand... every process must be carefully done. Senguo clothing is something passed down from ancestors and cannot be lost. With this idea in mind, Nula started from scratch and carried forward Senguo clothing. On August 27th, Nura Senior introduced Sengo Clothing to customers. At the beginning, there was a shortage of funds and manpower, making it difficult to find high-quality raw materials. Later, with the coordination and assistance of the government, the demand for orders grew day by day. At the same time, he actively seeks advice from others and continuously improves the artistic and practical value of the product. Now, the annual sales of Nula Elderly's workshop are nearly 700000 yuan. Entering the workshop, the workers were busy working. Nula said, "Nowadays, products are not worried about selling well, and sometimes they may even worry about oversupply." Nula's workshop provides dozens of job opportunities for local farmers and herdsmen every year. Over the years, Nura has taught his skills to hundreds of apprentices, of whom 8 have been able to "establish their own homes" and live a better life by making Senguo costumes. On August 27th, Nura and his wife Yucuo were sewing Senguo clothing. In the home of Nula, there are dozens of honorary certificates he has obtained. According to reports, Nura Senior has been supporting impoverished students in Gaize County for many years. Every year on the International Children's Day on June 1st, he sends warmth and care to the children. Nura also has his own "small fortune". What makes me very happy is that more and more people are seeing and falling in love with Senguo Clothing, and the popularity of Senguo Clothing is rapidly increasing. Since 2014, Nula Senior has been invited to participate in large-scale expos every year. Sometimes in Lhasa, sometimes in Xi'an, friends from all over the country can appreciate the unique beauty of Senguo clothing, "Nula said with a smile. Nura has many ideas about the future development of Senguo clothing. He said, "We must keep up with the trend of the times and see more innovative clothing design cases. It is important to strengthen the training of workers, and in the future, I will also go to Beijing and other places to further learn." Next, Nula's workshop will also expand in scale. Young people nowadays have ideas and vitality, and my biggest wish is to see them pass on this intangible cultural heritage skill. At the same time, Nula also has a "museum dream". Over the past 20 years, he has collected many old items about Senguo clothing in his daily life and work, which have already filled a bedroom at home. There are many things that children nowadays haven't seen
