The drilling depth of China's first Wanmike exploration well exceeds half

2023-08-25

On the 23rd, China National Petroleum Corporation announced that the first Wanmike exploration well in China, Shenditaco 1, has been drilled at a depth of over half. Well Shendi Taco 1 is located in the Tarim Basin, Xinjiang, with a design well depth of 11100m. Since the drilling was started on May 30 this year, the drilling task of medium and shallow layers has been completed, with the maximum daily drilling depth of 567m. Generally speaking, drilling with a depth exceeding 6000 meters is called an ultra deep well. Drilling ultra deep wells brings multiple drilling and completion technology limits such as ultra-high temperature and ultra-high pressure. Every 100 meters deep underground, the temperature will increase by about 2 degrees Celsius, and the underground will face high temperatures of about 220 degrees Celsius. At present, although the drilling depth of Well Shendi Taco 1 is over half, the remaining part is planned to take more than a year due to the need to conquer difficult formations. Liu Jinlong, an engineer from the Exploration Division of Tarim Oilfield, China National Petroleum Corporation, introduced that a high-strength metal sealed coring tool has been developed, with a temperature resistance of 230 degrees Celsius and a pressure resistance of 175 megapascals, providing support for drilling tens of thousands of meters of deep wells. In the past two years, over 90% of the newly added oil and gas reserves in Tarim Oilfield have been obtained through drilling ultra deep wells. The annual oil and gas production of ultra deep wells in Tarim Oilfield has exceeded 18 million tons, accounting for more than half of the total oilfield production. Ultra deep wells have become an important support for increasing reserves and production. It took 10 years to drill from a depth of 4500 meters to 6000 meters in the Tarim Oilfield, and 17 years to drill from a depth of 7000 meters to 9000 meters. The plan to drill from the current depth of 6000 meters to over ten thousand meters in the Deep Taco 1 well will take more than 370 days, which will also be the fastest time record for drilling a ten thousand meter deep well in the world, "said Liu Jinlong.
