On the 24th, the Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology announced that two suspected tombs of the Three Kingdoms Cao Wei or the early Western Jin period were discovered in a group of ancient tombs excavated in Xia County, Yuncheng City, providing a basis for studying the economy and culture of the Wei and Jin periods in Hedong County. Top view of M21 tomb chamber. The above-mentioned ancient tomb group is located in the west of Peijie Village, Xia County, with a straight northeast distance of 10 kilometers. It is the site of the ancient Anyi Site, the capital city of Wei during the Warring States period, and the Hedong County Government Site of Han and Jin dynasties. Among the 128 tombs excavated this time, there are 10 tombs from the Eastern Han and Wei Jin dynasties, 39 tombs from the Song, Jin, and Yuan dynasties, and 79 tombs from the Ming, Qing, and other unknown eras. Among them, two tombs (numbered M21 and M22) were excavated that are suspected to have been buried in the early years of the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Wei or Western Jin. The person in charge of the archaeological excavation project, Ding Jinlong, introduced that these two tombs are located adjacent to each other in groups, and the tomb type and burial customs are the same. The burial objects also have similarities, and the two should be of similar ages. The shortest distance between two cemeteries is 150 meters, which is highly likely the "distance" caused by the rise and fall of the cemetery (i.e. the "distance" created by the times). Pottery concave edge basin. The concave edge basin unearthed from Figure M21 provided by the Shanxi Provincial Archaeological Research Institute has a unique shape, with a wide edge and a concave bottom resembling a tilted wheel groove. This is also one of the main evidence for archaeologists to determine these two tombs as the Three Kingdoms Cao Wei or the early Western Jin period. In addition to the concave edge basin, the overall characteristics and some cultural factors presented by these two tombs can be seen in the Three Kingdoms Cao Wei Chronological Tombs in Xi'an. Hedong County belonged to the political, economic, and cultural center of the Cao Wei regime. M21 and M22 inherited some of the characteristics of late Eastern Han tombs, but also presented a new style of unearthed caves, few burial objects, the use of gray pottery, and the use of residual bricks to pave the ground. This situation is in line with some historical records of the Cao Wei period. Ding Jinlong stated that the archaeological team tends to believe that the ages of these two tombs are from the Three Kingdoms period of Cao Wei or the early Western Jin dynasty. Hedong Commandery was one of the central cities during the Han Dynasty, Cao Wei, and Western Jin dynasties. The excavation of tombs provides important information for exploring the tombs of the Cao Wei period and the early Western Jin period in Hedong County. (New News Agency)
