2023-08-23
On the 22nd, Thai Vice President Pompey announced that the Prime Minister candidate nominated by the Thai Party, Seta Tawaisin, received support from more than half of the members in a joint meeting of the upper and lower houses on the same day and was elected as the new Prime Minister of Thailand. According to the Thai Constitution, the General Assembly is elected by a vote of all members of both houses of parliament. On the same day, Seta, as the only nominated candidate for Prime Minister, received 482 votes in support of the 728 members of parliament who participated in the vote and was elected as the new Prime Minister of Thailand. According to relevant procedures, the official appointment of Seta as Prime Minister requires the approval of King Maha Wajilalongkorn. Saita, who is 61 years old, was previously a real estate developer and announced his political career shortly before the May parliamentary elections, becoming one of the candidates for Prime Minister of the Thai Party. Seta previously stated on social media that his political goal is to address poverty and inequality, help Thailand develop its economy, and create a better life for the people. After being elected, he told the media at the Thai Party headquarters that he was honored to be elected as the Prime Minister of Thailand and would spare no effort to promote the well-being of the Thai people. In the May parliamentary elections for the House of Commons, the Far Progressive Party became the largest party in the House of Commons, with the Thai party ranking second. The Thai parliament held two joint meetings in July to elect a new prime minister. Due to the failure of the Far Progressive Party leader, Pita Linchalenla, to pass the nomination of prime minister twice, the Far Progressive Party announced on July 21 that it would transfer the leadership of the formation of a new government to the second largest party in the lower house, the Thai Party.
