Activating Revolutionary Traditional Education in Chinese Language Classes
2023-08-18
Inheriting and promoting revolutionary culture in Chinese language teaching is a major concern for teachers in implementing the Chinese language curriculum standards. Strengthening the educational function of revolutionary culture in primary and secondary schools, making it an important resource for educating, motivating, and shaping people, is of great significance for continuously guiding young people to clarify their life values, strengthen their ideals and beliefs, and better engage in socialist modernization construction. Chinese language is an important course for implementing revolutionary traditional education. The "Guidelines for Teaching Materials of Revolutionary Traditional Courses in Primary and Secondary Schools" issued by the Ministry of Education in 2021 pointed out that revolutionary traditional education mainly focuses on three subjects: morality and the rule of law (ideological and political), Chinese language, and history. Art (music, fine arts, etc.) subjects are included with emphasis, while other subjects are organically integrated. It can be seen that these three subjects are important and main subjects of revolutionary traditional education. Chinese language is an important curriculum for implementing revolutionary traditional education and plays an important role in inheriting and promoting revolutionary culture. To implement the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating talents, every teacher should first clarify that their major is education, and then be a Chinese language teacher. In recent years, in terms of Chinese curriculum construction and Chinese education, the country has introduced many measures. In addition to the "Guidelines for Revolutionary Traditions in Primary and Secondary School Curriculum Textbooks", the newly revised "Chinese Curriculum Standards" also clearly point out that revolutionary culture is one of the three main themes of the curriculum. Subsequently, the Chinese unified textbook was revised under the guidance of the new curriculum standards. The strengthening of revolutionary culture education in Chinese language textbooks is directly reflected in the addition of relevant chapters. The content, weight, and degree of revolutionary cultural education are showing an upward trend. For example, in the lower grades, there is a single article teaching, in the middle and upper grades, there is a specialized revolutionary culture unit, while in high schools, there is a task group for "Study of Chinese Revolutionary Traditional Works" in the selective compulsory stage and a task group for "Special Discussion of Chinese Revolutionary Traditional Works" in the elective stage. This indicates that revolutionary culture has irreplaceable educational value. Compared with other disciplines, Chinese language has its own unique educational function. Its instrumental and humanistic characteristics, as well as the traditional Chinese language's characteristic of using literature to convey knowledge, require Chinese language teachers to teach both knowledge and character. Revolutionary traditional education is an important content of Chinese language education in New China. Revolutionary culture has had distinct red characteristics from the beginning. Our party has nurtured and formed a revolutionary culture with a unique red temperament in uniting and leading the people in their great struggle. Chinese language teachers can broaden their thinking in the development of Chinese language courses mainly based on the compilation of textbooks, which will be beneficial for teachers to better integrate Chinese resources and organize themed Chinese language learning activities in the practice of implementing learning task groups. The basic feature of strengthening the educational function of subject teaching in Chinese language courses is the unity of instrumental and humanistic qualities. In Chinese language teaching, we should base ourselves on this basic characteristic and strengthen the educational function of subject teaching. In Chinese language teaching, it is not only necessary to understand the thoughts and emotions contained in language and writing, but also to use language and writing based on the requirements of accurate expression of thoughts and emotions. We should not only prevent focusing solely on the form of language and writing while neglecting the educational value inherent in the language itself, but also prevent the problem of neglecting the essence of the language and only focusing on ideological education. We need to learn Chinese well through Chinese language courses and speak it well
