Photographer and herdsman spent 6 years together to complete the first rare documentary on snow leopards

The documentary "Snow Leopard and Her Friends", directed by renowned wildlife photographer Xi Zhinong, began airing on August 4th. This is the world's first major film with the theme of snow leopards. The film was filmed by the "Pastoral Photographer Growth Plan" photography team initiated by Xi Zhinong, which took six years of hard work. The film showcases the secret life of the snow leopard and tells the story of three local herders turning into photographers, using their cameras to explore new ways of harmonious coexistence between humans, wildlife, and nature. The Yangtze Evening News's Purple Bull Headline once reported their story. In an interview with Yangzi Evening News/Ziniu News reporters, Xi Zhinong said that the team not only filmed many rare scenes of snow leopards, but the biggest highlight was the growth of pastoral photographers. A herdsman photographer, Qu Peng, told reporters that he was particularly excited when he first captured precious images. Sometimes in his dreams, he would dream of a snow leopard and want to continue filming in the future to do better. The "God of Photography" was inspired to organize herdsmen to use lenses to protect snow leopards. Snow leopards live in high altitude areas, with a grayish white body covered in black spots and black rings. They are about 1.3 meters long and weigh 30-50 kilograms, earning the title of "King of Snow Mountains". Snow leopards are distributed in more than ten countries, with China having the highest number of snow leopards. Snow leopards, like many other wild animals, face survival crises such as poaching, habitat fragmentation, food resource depletion, and food chain disruption. China has listed the snow leopard as a national first-class protected wild animal. As an indicator species for the health of the plateau ecosystem, once the snow leopard disappears in a certain area, it means that the ecosystem in that area is about to collapse or has already collapsed. The Angsai Grand Canyon in Angsai Township, Zaduo County, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province is an important distribution area for snow leopards. However, this "king of snow mountains" is inherently secretive and difficult to detect and track. Xi Zhinong is a humble and gentle person with gentle words, but he has extremely strong perseverance. He is a legend in the field of natural photography in China, who has been engaged in wildlife photography since 1983 and is the founder of "Wild China". From 1992 to 1996, he once presented the little-known national first-class protected animal, the Yunnan golden monkey, to the public and thus preserved a pristine forest where they lived. In 1997, he first reported on the widespread hunting of Tibetan antelopes, promoting their protection. He spared no effort to protect wildlife through imaging and launched the "China Endangered Species Imaging Program". He was the only Chinese photographer selected for the "International Union of Nature Conservation Photographers" (iLCP), the initiator of the "Giant Tree Program", and won the "Wayfinder" award from the National Geographic Society of the United States in 2022. In March 2016, the Sanjiangyuan National Park began pilot operation. Ansai Township, Zaduo County, Yushu Prefecture, Qinghai Province is located in the core area of Sanjiangyuan National Park. After the establishment of Sanjiangyuan National Park, the local government also organized herdsmen, with each household appointing a male as a caretaker, becoming protectors of wild animals such as snow leopards and money leopards. In January 2016, Xi Zhinong came to Ansai again to rescue an injured snow leopard. At that time, the herdsmen of Ansai Township, Dajie and Ciding, were guides. They held a telephoto card digital camera and approached Xi Zhi
