Exploring the "Millennium Oil Pulse" at the Oil Museum
2023-08-11
In the scorching summer, amidst the constant chirping of cicadas and birds on the campus of Wuhan Light Industry University, the reporter walked into the China Oil Museum - a building surrounded by various woody and herbaceous oil crops such as olive and camellia trees, sunflowers and sesame. This is the only oil museum in China and is praised by industry insiders as the "one museum of oil for a thousand years". China was one of the earliest countries to cultivate oil crops, produce and use fats. 'Oil' is scattered in ancient Chinese literature. The term "ointment" appears in the "Annals of Rites". During the Tang Dynasty, Kong Yingda wrote: "Those who coagulate are fat, and those who release are cream." The Compendium of Materia Medica states: "Those who coagulate are fat, and those who release are cream, which are oil." In other words, the liquid is called oil, and the solid is called fat. Wang Liying, the director of the China Oil Museum, introduced that oil has always been a necessity for people's survival from ancient times to the present. Before Qin, it was sprouting, and oil shone in the flames of civilization; The spring and autumn contend, and the oil overflows between the convergence; During the Tang Dynasty, oil mills emerged as the times required; The recent changes have made it difficult for oil factories to rejuvenate; The establishment of the People's Republic of China has led to the vigorous development of the oil industry; Entering a new era, oil technology is constantly changing. At present, the China Oil Museum has a total collection of over 8000 items, including over 300 pieces of copper, porcelain, pottery, stone, wood, etc., over 4000 grain and oil stamps, over 2800 boxes of sparks, nearly 1000 books of literature, and nearly 1000 types of oil specimens, crops, and oil products. The museum has exhibition areas for ancient oil and fats, modern oil and fats industry, introduction of famous experts in the oil and fats industry, famous schools and enterprises of the oil and fats society, oil and fat technology and grain and oil safety, and enterprise oil products. In the Chinese Oil Museum, there are various crude or exquisite oil lamps, as well as antique Ming Dynasty horizontal wooden presses, and various modern oil extraction machines. The most impressive thing for reporters is the oil tickets displayed in the museum. Shanghai's 1966 four liang oil ticket, Shaanxi's 1972 three city two oil ticket, Yichang's 1984 two city two oil ticket, Jinan's 1993 750 gram oil ticket... These small oil tickets have witnessed the changes in Chinese society and the difficult times of material scarcity. In May of this year, Wang Ruiyuan, the Chief Expert of the China Grain and Oil Society, Honorary President of the Oil and Oil Branch of the China Grain and Oil Society, and Lifetime Honorary Director of the China Oil and Oil Museum, made a special trip to Wuhan and donated more than 7000 precious collections to the museum. Among them, there is a batch of extremely precious fuel tickets. Wang Ruiyuan introduced that the smallest denomination of the donated oil tickets was only 5.5 centimeters, which was a temporary edible oil ticket issued in Zhenping County, Henan Province in 1965 for members of the "Four Cleans" work team to use while eating at farmers' homes. At that time, each person only provided half a kilogram of edible oil per month, which was calculated to be 0.055 taels (5.5 centimeters) per person per meal. The quantitative supply of 6 kilograms of edible oil per person per year for urban residents in 1965 is in stark contrast to the open supply of 53.2 kilograms per person per year in 2022. A drop of water can reflect the radiance of the sun. Similarly, a drop of oil can also reflect the tremendous achievements our country has made over the past few decades. Huang Fenghong, Director of the Oil Crops Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said that nowadays, our edible oil is not only completely edible, but also needs to be eaten well and healthily, which must be said to be a huge leap. To vividly promote the knowledge of oil crops
