The King of Cambodia Appoints Hong Manai as the New Prime Minister

King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia signed a decree in Phnom Penh on the 7th, appointing Hung Manai as the new Prime Minister for a term of 5 years. Hong Manai is currently a member of the Central Standing Committee of the Cambodian People's Party and the Deputy Commander in Chief and Army Commander of the Cambodian Royal Army. On July 26th, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that he would no longer serve as Prime Minister and that the future Prime Minister candidate of the Cambodian People's Party, Hun Manai, would lead the new government. Hong Manai needs to win a vote of confidence in the National Assembly on August 22nd to officially become the new Prime Minister. If he wins the parliamentary confidence vote, he is expected to be sworn in on the same day. According to the election results released by the Cambodian National Election Commission on August 5th, the ruling party, the People's Party, won the seventh National Assembly election with an absolute advantage and was responsible for forming the new Royal Government.
