According to the radio broadcast on the bridge of the "Xuelong 2" polar scientific research Icebreaker, at 16:34 on July 24, Beijing time, the 13th Chinese Arctic Ocean Scientific Expedition crossed the Arctic Circle and entered the Arctic waters. On July 22, 2023, China's 13th Arctic Ocean Scientific Expedition conducted an ocean scientific exploration exercise. On July 12th, Wei Hongyi, a reporter from Xinhua News Agency, took a photo of China's 13th Arctic Ocean Scientific Expedition Team departing from Shanghai on the "Snow Dragon 2" to carry out a scientific expedition mission in the Arctic Ocean. In the past 12 days, "Xuelong 2" has traveled northward through the East China Sea, the Sea of Japan, the Sea of Okhotsk, the Bering Sea and other sea areas, crossed the Bering Strait, and successfully reached the Arctic Circle. Wang Jinhui, the leader of the expedition, said that crossing the Arctic Circle was an important node in previous Arctic scientific research. In order to record this moment, the expedition will hold a commemorative activity for crossing the Arctic Circle on the 25th, including hanging a commemorative banner for crossing the Arctic Circle and organizing a group photo of the whole ship. Wang Jinhui introduced that, in order to further improve the operational proficiency and collaborative work level of scientific research team members, the investigation team conducted an ocean scientific research exercise in the high seas of the Bering Sea on the 22nd. In response to the problems encountered during the exercise, each team of the inspection team has promptly proposed optimization or rectification measures, improved the implementation plan for the scientific research homework, and effectively ensured the formal implementation of the oceanic scientific research homework. After entering the Arctic Circle, the investigation team will continue to sail towards the scheduled operation site. According to the schedule, "Xuelong 2" is expected to sail to the Chukchi Basin on the 26th, and the expedition team will officially carry out oceanographic research operations. (New News Agency)
