Verification of the requirements for the main engine of China's manned lunar landing rocket to complete its flight mission
2023-07-24
Reporters learned from the Sixth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology) on the 23rd that the main engine of China's manned lunar landing rocket had been tested in the Fengzhou test area of the Academy and had achieved continuous success. This test run verified all the requirements for the rocket flight mission to the engine, providing strong support for the solidification of engine technical status, establishment of product technical baseline, and reliability improvement. The picture shows the testing site. The Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology provided a picture. The engine uses advanced liquid oxygen kerosene as fuel. It is improved and iterated from the high thrust liquid oxygen kerosene engine used in the new generation of launch vehicles such as the active Long March 5. The thrust reaches 130 tons. It will be used for the core stage and booster of the Long March 10 used for China's manned lunar landing. It is reported that the research and development team of the Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology has successively overcome key technical challenges such as engine start and shutdown timing, large-scale continuous variable thrust of the engine, and long service life and high reliability of the engine. In addition, during the preparation period for engine testing, the research and testing personnel of the Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology conducted testing and verification on each subsystem of the test through comprehensive methods such as digital modeling, simulation calculation, and system debugging. The successful test run indicates that the experimental area has significantly improved the ability and efficiency of multi station parallel testing by optimizing the workflow. The engine for this test run adopts the concept of intelligent manufacturing, applying new materials, processes, and technologies. The core components of the thrust chamber wall adopt new protective coatings, key components adopt automated welding technology, and a large number of components adopt 3D printing technology. The continuous successful testing has fully verified the reliability of multiple new equipped process technologies. Today's engine test successfully met the relevant test requirements, assessed the smoothness of engine startup, shutdown, and high and low operating conditions, and all relevant parameters were obtained. "Zhou Xianqi, director of Room 1, 165 Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology, told reporters from China News Agency, "After the completion of this engine test, we will carry out several high-altitude simulation tests in the second half of the year to finally determine the performance and parameters of this engine." On May 29, 2023, the China Manned Space Agency announced that the lunar landing phase of China's manned Exploration of the Moon project has been launched, and it is planned to achieve the first Chinese landing on the moon before 2030.
