On July 6, in Zhongxian County, Chongqing, scientific researchers from Chengdu Institute of Mountainous Regions, Chinese Academy of Sciences measured the soil temperature and humidity on the site in the fluctuating zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir. Huang Wei, a reporter from Xinhua News Agency, photographed researchers from research institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment of the Ministry of Water Resources (hereinafter referred to as the Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards). Based on the Research station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on Water and Soil Conservation and Environment in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area (hereinafter referred to as the Three Gorges Station) located in Shibao Town, Zhongxian County, Chongqing, since 2007, many studies have been carried out on water and soil loss in the reservoir area, non-point source pollution, and ecological restoration of fluctuating zones. The operating water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir fluctuates year-round between 145 meters and 175 meters, creating a 30 meter drop in the water level of the reservoir, with a total area of 349 square kilometers. The anti seasonal inundation of summer exposure and winter flooding, as well as the extinction and succession of vegetation systems, can bring secondary environmental problems such as soil erosion and pollutant release. It is reported that in recent years, the overall ecological environment in the Three Gorges Reservoir area has been improving, and the soil erosion intensity in the subsidence zone has gradually decreased. After more than ten years of positioning observation and research, Chinese scientists have gained a clearer understanding of the laws of vegetation extinction and succession, soil erosion changes, and other factors in the Three Gorges Reservoir's subsidence zone.
