2023-07-14
The Chinese representative called for the political consensus of global cooperation for development to be consolidated. On the 10th, Dai Bing, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, called on the international community to consolidate the political consensus of global cooperation for development. Dai Bing said at the interactive dialogue meeting of the United Nations High level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on "Overcoming the crisis, promoting transformation, and not letting anyone fall behind" that the international community should take the Sustainable Development Goals Summit as an opportunity to place development issues at the core of the international agenda, promote the formation of a strong joint force of people who attach importance to development and countries seek common development, foster new development drivers, and not let any country or person fall behind. He said that at present, the world's centennial changes are accelerating, the global economic recovery is weak, and multiple challenges such as geopolitical conflicts, climate change, and the food Energy crisis are intertwined. For the first time in history, the human development index has declined for two consecutive years. In the face of the harsh global development environment, the international community needs to rally together to overcome the difficulties and push the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals back on track. Dai Bing said that we need to improve global governance and create an international environment conducive to developing countries. Countries should strengthen cooperation in scientific and technological innovation based on the reality of the world economy and the urgent needs of developing countries. We need to vigorously promote the reform of the international financial architecture and enable relevant institutions to better serve developing countries. We should build an open world economy, build a more just and reasonable international economic order and institutional environment, oppose Unilateralism and protectionism, and oppose "decoupling and chain breaking" and small circles under various pretexts, so as to ensure that all countries equally enjoy development opportunities and achievements. Dai Bing said that we need to increase resource investment and build a broad global development partnership. Developed countries need to fulfill their official development assistance and climate financing obligations, and effectively fulfill their commitments to provide financial, technological, and capacity building support to developing countries. Developing countries need to strengthen development strategy alignment and experience exchange, and deepen South-South cooperation. At the same time, we will further mobilize the efforts of international institutions, enterprises, civil society organizations, academia, and other parties to jointly build a global development partnership that is united, equal, balanced, and inclusive. Dai Bing stated that in the past two years since China proposed the Global Development Initiative, a series of positive results have been achieved in bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Measures such as the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund and the Global Development Promotion Center have been implemented, and the total number of practical cooperation projects has exceeded 100. The Chinese side has initiated and arranged 1000 human resource development cooperation projects, providing 20000 training slots, covering basically all member countries of the "Group of Friends of Global Development Initiatives". China is willing to continue to work with all parties to promote common development through practical actions and turn the 2030 Agenda from a vision into a reality. The United Nations High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is held every July at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The forum was held from July 10 to 19 with the theme of "accelerating recovery from the COVID-19 and comprehensively implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels".
