On July 12, the 13th Chinese Arctic Ocean Scientific Expedition Team, organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources, took the "Xuelong 2" polar scientific expedition Icebreaker from the Port of Shanghai International Passenger Transport Center wharf to the Arctic Ocean for scientific expedition. The estimated total voyage of this expedition is approximately 15500 nautical miles, and it will return to Shanghai in late September. It is reported that this scientific expedition will focus on the two major regions of the Pacific sector of the Central North Arctic Ocean and the Mid Gak Ridge, and will carry out four major tasks: long-term monitoring of key environmental factors, geological and geophysical surveys of the Mid Ocean Ridge, national science and technology plan projects, and international cooperation; Implement atmospheric, sea ice, marine and sediment environmental surveys, biological community and resource surveys, and pollutant monitoring, and conduct comprehensive sea ice surveys in ice regions at appropriate times. This scientific expedition will effectively enhance China's ability to protect the Arctic Ocean environment, respond to rapid Arctic changes, and assess marine pollution, and obtain key information and data required for research on mid ocean ridge dynamics; At the same time, we will collaborate with scientists from Russia, Thailand and other countries to carry out relevant research and effectively promote international cooperation in Arctic scientific exploration.
