▲ Dushan Site 38 tombs of the Western Zhou Dynasty, 37 of which unearthed more than 100 artifacts, 25 of which were precious bronze weapons... After more than four months of surface clearing and more than three months of archaeological excavation, the Dushan Site in Yunhe County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province recently completed all the archaeological work. During this period, a large number of bronzes were found for the first time in Lishui, and some of the unearthed cultural relics are rare in the country. In the past two years, Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, together with the Cultural Relics Protection Center of Yunhe County, has carried out three systematic surveys and explorations in Yunhe, and found 60 sites in the Pre Qin period, while Dushan site was in the Western Zhou period. It is reported that the Western Zhou period, from 1046 BC to 771 BC, was the heyday of China's slave society. During this period, China achieved significant achievements in politics, economy, and culture. The overall shape of the Dushan Western Zhou Site is "L" shaped, divided into two important blocks: Nangang and Beigang. The highest elevation is nearly 200 meters, and some slopes are relatively steep. The area of the Dushan Site is relatively large this time, and during the excavation process, we also encountered many challenges. In the early stage, due to the dry weather and less rain, the soil here contains more sand and stones, which is relatively hard, affecting the excavation progress. After everyone's unremitting efforts, the Dushan Site has finally made significant discoveries. "said Zhang Xiaoyuan, a staff member of the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. At present, there are 38 tombs excavated from the Western Zhou period at the Dushan site, mostly consisting of earth pits and stone beds. Some tombs still have a depth of about 1 meter, and a few still have a certain height of sealed soil. From this, it can be seen that the Dushan Site is mainly composed of mound tombs from the Western Zhou Dynasty. A large number of accompanying burial objects were also unearthed in the tomb, with a wide variety of burial objects, including 43 pieces of bronze ware, primitive celadon, stone tools, etc., which have high artistic value. Among them, there are 25 bronze artifacts, including spears, spears, swords, arrowheads, knives, bells, etc; There are 9 pieces of primitive celadon, including beans and bowls; Nine stone tools, mainly grinding stones. Among the unearthed bronze artifacts, a dovetail shaped bronze spear with exquisite patterns is particularly important. Chen Minghui, Deputy Director of the Prehistoric Archaeology Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, introduced, "According to research, the swallow tailed bronze spear was previously discovered in the Zhangjiapo Cemetery in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, and a small number were also found in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. This discovery in Yunhe greatly expanded the distribution range of this type of copper spear and provided new information for the study of its origin." ▲ In fact, the bronze burial objects provided by the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology are:, From 2021 to 2022, Yunhe excavated the Western Zhou Menqian Mountain site, cleared 15 early Western Zhou tombs, and unearthed primitive porcelain pots, beans, bowls, and other artifacts. Chen Minghui believes that the originally discovered Menqianshan site did not have any bronze artifacts, indicating that the burial level of the site was relatively low and it was a commoner family cemetery. However, the multiple tombs cleared in the Beigang area of the Dushan site this time were mainly composed of bronze artifacts, indicating a relatively high level of burial. It is preliminarily inferred that it was a noble family cemetery, indicating that there was a phenomenon of social class differentiation in the Yunhe area during the Western Zhou Dynasty.
