2023-06-27
According to the Syrian News Agency, the Syrian representative to the Arab League (LAS), Hussam Ding Ala, submitted a letter of appointment to the Secretary General of the LAS, Gheit, at the headquarters of the LAS in Cairo, Egypt, on the 25th. Husam Al Din is the first Syrian representative to the Arab League after the outbreak of the Syrian crisis. According to the report, Husam Al Din delivered a speech after submitting the appointment letter, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and coordination between Syria and other Arab countries in addressing common challenges, as well as the coordinating role of the Arab League in this regard. After the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011, the Arab League suspended Syria's membership and several Arab countries closed their embassies in Syria. With the evolution of the domestic and regional situation in Syria in recent years, the relationship between the Syrian government and the Arab world has gradually thawed. On May 7th this year, the Arab League issued a statement stating that it had decided to restore Syria's membership as a member of the League at a special meeting of its foreign ministers held in Cairo that day.
