Experts from China, Japan, South Korea, and ASEAN Talk Together on Strengthening Regional Economic Integration Cooperation Paths and Methods

18 experts from China, Japan, South Korea, and ASEAN countries gathered in Seoul on the 22nd to conduct in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics such as paths and methods to strengthen regional economic integration cooperation. At the China Japan ROK Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) expert seminar and the 2023 China Japan ROK Economic Report conference hosted by the China Japan ROK Cooperation Secretariat on the same day, the participating experts reiterated the importance of strengthening regional economic cooperation between China, Japan and the ROK, and stressed that in order to achieve future growth, cooperation should be strengthened at both the national and local levels. Experts say that smooth personnel exchanges and policy exchanges will help the three countries better carry out regional economic cooperation within the RCEP framework. The Secretary General of the Secretariat for Cooperation between China, Japan, and South Korea, Ou Boqian, pointed out in his speech that RCEP and its rules of origin accumulation have brought many dividends to member countries in terms of trade and supply chain. China, Japan, and South Korea should optimize industrial division of labor and strengthen investment in new economic fields such as the digital economy, green economy, blue economy, cross-border e-commerce, and healthcare industry. Chi Fulin, President of the China (Hainan) Reform and Development Research Institute, stated in his keynote speech that the complementarity of service trade between China, Japan, and South Korea has continuously improved, becoming a key focus in promoting economic and trade cooperation among the three countries. Under the RCEP framework, the key to deepening service trade cooperation between China, Japan, and South Korea lies in market openness, avoiding "decoupling and chain breaking", and continuously promoting greater market openness. China, Japan, and South Korea play an important driving role in the RCEP process. To deepen cooperation under the RCEP framework, we need to grasp the overall trend, eliminate interference, and work together to build the world's largest high-level free trade area. Aladdin Lillo, senior economic adviser of ASEAN East Asia Economic Research Institute, believes that ASEAN, China, Japan and South Korea should strengthen cooperation to strengthen regional trade connectivity and Supply chain resilience. Deepening cooperation between China, Japan, and South Korea under the RCEP framework plays an important role in promoting high-level implementation of RCEP. East Asian countries should continuously deepen the integration process to achieve the important goal of global economic integration. Kim Hing jung, President of the South Korean Institute of Foreign Economic Policy, stated that RCEP will help stabilize regional supply chains and promote regional economic integration.
