[History/Details] The tree introduced today is the camphor tree, which is located on the right side of the door of Guangdong Victory Hotel in Shamian North Street. It was planted in 1685, 338 years ago, and is the oldest ancient tree in Shamian and even in Liwan District. The predecessor of Guangdong Victory Hotel was the "Victoria Hotel" built by the British in the early 20th century, but compared to this ancient tree, it has a longer history and personally witnessed the century long prosperity of Guangdong Victory Hotel. In 2017, due to the tree trunk tilting to one side and the cracking of the ground tiles, in order to prevent it from collapsing, our unit carried out pruning and weight reduction, building breathable tiles, soil improvement, fertilization and rejuvenation work on it after reporting to the Municipal Landscape Bureau for approval. Now, the tree has been cleared of danger and is growing well.
