This award is the first international award established by UNESCO since 2021, aimed at promoting the work of young scientists in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It is presented every two years to five young STEM workers to recognize and reward scientists for their achievements at the national, regional, and global levels that are conducive to promoting capacity building, scientific development, and socio-economic development, Further promote education, scientific progress, scientific popularization, and international cooperation in the STEM field. Fu Qiaomei has been engaged in Archaeogenetics research for a long time, mainly focusing on ancient DNA to explore the important scientific issues of human origin and evolution. As one of the leading scientists in the field of international Archaeogenetics, Fu Qiaomei stood out from 2500 candidates around the world in the selection of this award, becoming the first Chinese scientist to win this award. The other four young scientists who won this year are Abden Atangana from Cameroon, Hisham Omran from Egypt, Yelena Vladic from Serbia, and Federico Ariel from Argentina. They won awards respectively for innovative research and promotion in the fields of mathematics, semiconductor chip and Microelectronics design, green engineering, and agricultural biotechnology.
