Iranian media reported on the 3rd that Iran plans to form a naval alliance with countries along the northern Indian Ocean coast such as Saudi Arabia to ensure regional peace and stability. According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Iranian Navy Commander Shahram Ilani stated on a television program on the evening of the 2nd that among Gulf countries, Oman and Iran have previously conducted joint naval exercises multiple times, and countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Iraq now also hope to engage in maritime military cooperation with Iran. In addition, India and Pakistan will also join the planned naval alliance. The report by Iran's Fars News Agency quoted Ilani as saying: "In the near future, we will witness the region break free from unauthorized military forces and use our own forces to defend regional security." The relevant countries have not yet confirmed Iran's claim to form a joint naval alliance. According to a statement released by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 31st, the UAE withdrew from the US led joint maritime force two months ago. The Joint Maritime Force was established in 2001 and is now composed of naval vessels from 38 countries. It is commanded by the Commander of the United States Navy Central Command and the Commander of the Fifth Fleet, with its headquarters located in Bahrain, where the Fifth Fleet headquarters are located. Recently, Iran's relations with multiple Gulf Arab countries have significantly heated up. Following the comprehensive resumption of diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates last year, Iran resumed diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia on April 6th, which had been suspended since 2016.
