Sana'a News: On the 30th, the United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator for Yemen, Graysley, stated that a United Nations engineering ship has arrived in the waters near the Red Sea port of Hodeida in Yemen, preparing for the transfer of crude oil from the "Safire" oil tanker anchored there. Graysley said in a statement that the United Nations engineering ship lifted sail from Djibouti on the 29th, crossed the Red Sea, and arrived in the waters near the port of Hoteida in western Yemen on the morning of the 30th. The engineering ship will prepare for subsequent crude oil transfer operations. A United Nations staff member stationed in Yemen said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that the task of the engineering ship is to handle some issues with the oil storage giant ship and its nearby facilities to ensure the safety of the crude oil transfer process. The actual transfer of crude oil will not take place in the next few days. The "Safir" oil tanker is a crude oil storage and transfer platform parked by the Yemeni government outside the port of Hodada. After the Yemeni Husai armed forces took control of the tanker in March 2015, it has been in an unmanned maintenance state, and currently there are still 1.1 million barrels of crude oil on board. The United Nations has repeatedly warned that the "Safire" tanker is at risk of oil leakage, explosion, or fire. Once an accident occurs, it will cause environmental and humanitarian disasters.
