2023-05-25

The second Eurasian Economic Forum of the Eurasian economic union opened in Moscow, the Russian capital, on the 24th. The participants will discuss the Eurasian integration agenda, covering economic and trade cooperation, energy security, digital transformation, technical cooperation, climate change and other topics. The forum was held during Russia's rotating presidency of the Eurasian economic union, with the theme of "Eurasian integration in a multipolar world". The forum will last for two days, and in addition to the plenary session, it will also hold 35 sub sessions, attracting over 2700 representatives from the political and business sectors, international organizations, and media from over 50 countries. Russian President Putin attended the forum plenary session and delivered a speech on the same day. Putin stated that the world is undergoing profound and fundamental changes today, with an increasing number of countries adopting the policy of strengthening national sovereignty, pursuing independent domestic and foreign policies, adhering to their own development model, advocating for the establishment of a more equitable new international economic relations architecture, seeking to constructively influence global processes, and expanding partnership networks based on mutual benefit, respect, and consideration of each other's interests. The partners of Russia and the Eurasian economic union follow the above guidelines and welcome sincere, fruitful and pragmatic cooperation. Putin said that the Eurasian economic union supports other initiatives aimed at developing the entire Eurasian continent, will continue to cooperate with China, link the integration process within the framework of the Eurasian economic union with the "the Belt and Road" initiative proposed by Chinese friends, and realize the grand vision of "Greater Eurasian Partnership". On the 25th, leaders of the Eurasian economic union countries will attend the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the highest authority of the Eurasian economic union, to discuss the progress of the Eurasian economic union in achieving its goals this year, focusing on issues such as ensuring energy and food security, technological and financial independence, accelerating digital transformation, removing regulatory and trade barriers, and developing transport infrastructure. The Eurasian economic union was established in 2015, and its members include Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. (New News Agency)
