Chinese investors are Cambodia's largest source of foreign direct investment
2023-05-23
The Development Council of Cambodia (CDC) approved 65 fixed assets investment projects with a total value of more than 588 million US dollars in the first four months of this year. Among them, Chinese investors are the largest source of foreign direct investment in Cambodia, accounting for 73.5% of the total investment. Chea Vuthy, Deputy Secretary General of the CDC, stated that foreign direct investment has played an important role in promoting Cambodia's socio-economic development. He pointed out that foreign direct investment, especially from China, has played an important role in promoting economic development, improving people's lives through capital flows, creating employment opportunities for local people, and increasing exports. He also emphasized that the growth of Chinese investment reflects investors' confidence in Cambodia. He attributed this confidence to intergovernmental cooperation, a favorable investment environment, and the positive economic prospects of the country. He pointed out that Cambodia has many factors to attract foreign investment, including a peaceful and stable social environment, competitive labor force, abundant natural resources, and the opportunity to enter a large market through free trade agreements with China and South Korea, as well as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
