Recently, Czech aircraft manufacturer Aero signed a contract with the Bulgarian Air Force to provide major repairs and upgrades to two L-39 "Albatross" trainer aircraft. Two months before the release of this news, Aero Company delivered four of the latest L-39NG advanced trainer aircraft to the Czech Air Force. These two pieces of news both point to the same fighter L-39. The L-39 is a classic trainer aircraft, born in the late 1960s, producing over 2800 aircraft and serving in more than 20 national air forces. Its "home" is the Czech company Aero, which has a century long history of aircraft manufacturing. Although the Czech Republic is a small country in Central Europe, throughout its military industry development history, there are not many "century old stores" like the Aero Company. However, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the development of Czech aviation industry, with the Warsaw Pact as its main customer, encountered a "Waterloo" and could only rely on small and medium-sized aircraft with low production technology barriers to survive. Many enterprises became part suppliers for foreign aviation enterprises. How did the Czech aviation industry start in the highly skilled European aviation industry? How to occupy a position in the fiercely competitive military trade market? Where is the future development path? In this issue, we approach Czech airlines to find answers. The "century old shop" of the Czech aviation industry struggled to start its own business, finding a "pivot" for development and achieving a counterattack. After World War I, the Austro Hungarian Empire disintegrated and the Czechoslovak Republic was announced. The "paper strength" of the country's air force includes over 140 aircraft of various types left over from the Austro Hungarian Empire. At the same time, the country inherited the core industrial zone of the Austro Hungarian Empire and is one of the top industrial powers in Europe, able to quickly rebuild its military industry system and develop new weapons and equipment. At that time, the weapons and equipment of the country's military could be considered "made in a thousand countries", and whether these planes could fly and withstand the test of war was uncertain. At this time, it has been more than 10 years since the Wright brothers sent the first aircraft to the sky. The development of the world aviation industry is still in the initial stage, and no military enterprise in this country has tried aircraft manufacturing. No one knows how long it will take to develop domestically produced aircraft. The urgent need to develop the domestic aviation industry has forced the military and military enterprises to quickly invest in the research and production of fighter jets. Shortly after the establishment of the country's air force, the first aircraft manufacturing plant, Letov Company, was announced in Prague. The following year, Airo and Avia companies also began to build aircraft production workshops. In 1920, the country's first aircraft successfully made its maiden flight at the Letov Company test flight site. Aiero and Avia companies are also unwilling to lag behind, gradually producing AE-02 and BH-3 fighter jets. Give me a fulcrum, and I can leverage the Earth. During this period, the country's aviation companies, after repeated exploration, found a "fulcrum" suitable for their own development, and embarked on a path of "introduction digestion imitation" to take off. They adopt an authorized production method, introducing product production lines from aviation enterprises in countries such as France and the UK, and producing fighter jets in their own countries.
