Launch of the Key Special Project of "Frontier Research on Large Scientific Devices"
2023-05-19
According to Peking University, the two key projects of the National Key R&D Program "Frontier Research of Large Science Devices" led by the university, namely "Laboratory Simulation Research of Laser Driven Celestial Phenomena" and "Ultra High Time Space Energy Resolution Technology and Applications Based on Ultrafast Strong Laser", have been officially launched recently. The "Laboratory Simulation Research on Laser Driven Celestial Phenomena" project will face the forefront of world science and technology, relying on the research methods and advanced technologies provided by China's large-scale laser devices. It will explore and innovate new paradigms of laboratory simulation research, targeting large-scale magnetic field origin, collimated jet and shock wave generation, high-energy cosmic ray sources, and other cutting-edge scientific issues. Through active, close range Controllable and repeatable simulation experiments reveal the physical essence of celestial dynamics evolution, energy conversion and dissipation, deepen the understanding of celestial phenomena and astronomical observation data, and aim to obtain several important scientific discoveries and original achievements. The project "Based on Ultra Fast and Strong Laser Ultra High Time Space Energy Resolution Technology and Applications" will focus on the development of advanced light sources with tunable excitation wavelength ranges ranging from extreme ultraviolet to near-infrared broadband. New experimental technologies and methods will be developed for the detection of ultrafast processes such as new quantum materials, micro nano devices, and energy devices, and ultra-high time space energy resolution technology will be developed to provide cutting-edge research methods for materials, information devices, and other fields, To meet the urgent needs of the country for new extreme ultraviolet light sources and ultra-high time-space resolution detection, and to develop advanced application platforms for large scientific devices such as ultrafast intense lasers and X-ray free-electron laser. Xie Bing, Minister of the Department of Scientific Research at Peking University, stated at the project kickoff meeting and implementation plan review meeting that Peking University will strongly support these two key research and development projects, continue to provide strong guarantees and services for the smooth progress and implementation of the projects, ensure that all research and development work of the projects is strictly completed according to the plan, and promote the project team to make new breakthroughs in cutting-edge science, advanced light source generation and application, and other fields, To lay an important foundation for the next step of undertaking the task of national large-scale scientific installations.
