On May 11, 2023, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Working Committee, met with Austrian Foreign Minister Schalenberg in Vienna. Wang Yi stated that China Austria relations maintain good development, and China is willing to deepen friendly strategic partnership with Austria. No matter how the international situation changes, China always firmly supports European integration, supports the unity and growth of the European Union, and supports the EU to play a more important role in international affairs. China is willing to engage in dialogue and cooperation with the European side on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit. Sharenberg stated that Austria is committed to developing good Austria China relations on the basis of mutual respect and seeking common ground while reserving differences. The Austrian side does not advocate decoupling from China and is willing to actively promote the healthy development of EU China relations.
