[History/Details] The sand surface is not an island, but a sandbar formed by the the Pearl River. In 1859, the Qing government surrendered to force coercion and agreed to set up a concession between Britain and France on the north bank of White Goose Pond of the the Pearl River in Guangzhou. The project of building a concession in Shamian was first moved to the people in Shamian and demolished the city defense fort. The banyan tree introduced today existed before the invasion of Britain and France. Before going to sea, the people on the island would pray for safety in the sea under this tree.
