The 2023 China Pacific Island Countries Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers' Meeting was held in Nanjing on the 9th. Liu Guozhong, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Liu Guozhong stated that the Chinese government attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with Pacific island countries in agriculture and fisheries. Under the strategic guidance of both leaders, China and Pacific island countries have achieved fruitful results in agricultural and fishery cooperation. The theme of this meeting is "Building a Comprehensive Cooperation Platform for Agriculture and Fisheries between China and Pacific Island Countries in the New Era, Supporting the Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Fisheries in Island Countries", which is of great significance for both sides to better ensure food security, promote marine protection and sustainable utilization, and accelerate the realization of agricultural modernization. Liu Guozhong pointed out that China has always been a like-minded good friend, a good brother in the same boat, and a good partner walking shoulder to shoulder among Pacific island countries. China is willing to deepen practical cooperation with island countries in the field of agriculture and fisheries, leverage complementary advantages, enhance economic and trade cooperation, close personnel exchanges, strengthen multilateral coordination, and jointly develop the economy and improve people's livelihoods. I hope to take this meeting as an opportunity to push bilateral agricultural and fishery cooperation to a new level and make new contributions to building a closer community with a shared future between China and Pacific island countries. Approximately 150 people attended the opening ceremony, including ministers of agriculture and fisheries from Pacific island countries and their envoys to China, representatives of international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and representatives of relevant domestic ministries, provincial and municipal agriculture and fisheries departments.
