Recently, Guangzhou Customs seized 44 endangered red coral products with a net weight of 432.2 grams through inbound shipping channels. At present, further measures have been taken in accordance with the law. When the customs officers of Guangzhou Post Office affiliated to Guangzhou Customs supervised a batch of inbound mail, they found that the X-ray machine image of one mail declared as "essence liquid, makeup remover" was abnormal. The image shows multiple chain shaped items and small block shaped items in the email, which clearly do not match the declared product name. After further inspection, the customs officers at the scene found that there were a large number of tangerine necklaces, earrings and other accessories, as well as several red dendritic items in the mail. These items have a smooth surface and delicate veins, suspected to be endangered red coral products. After being sent to a professional organization for identification, it is confirmed that the above items are products of the Coral soft coral order and the Red Coral family species, with a total of 44 items and a net weight of 432.2 grams. Red coral is an organic gemstone that is formed by the accumulation of coral insects and grows extremely slowly. Due to its rarity and non renewability, it is listed as a national first-class protected wild animal and is also listed as a protected species in the appendix of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). According to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora and the Wildlife Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, in addition to legally holding the Endangered Species Import and Export Permit and handling customs procedures in accordance with regulations, it is prohibited to trade, carry, or mail various endangered species and their products into or out of the country.
