At 16:26 Beijing time on April 27th, a 23-year-old giant panda named Yaya, who returned from her trip to the United States, arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and, accompanied by Chinese veterinarians and staff, went to a closed quarantine area. In April 2003, giant pandas "Yaya" and "Lele" stayed at the Memphis Zoo in Tennessee, USA. According to the cooperation agreement, it will expire this year and return to China. In February this year, "Lele" passed away due to heart disease at the age of 25, and her body returned to China on the same plane. On the 27th, it was learned from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration that in order to ensure the safe and smooth return of "Yaya" to China, experienced keepers and veterinarians selected by Beijing Zoo arrived in the United States on March 16th to participate in the care and care of "Yaya". They familiarized themselves with the lifestyle and feeding situation of "Yaya" and carried out behavior training, daily physical examinations, and health assessments. In order to carry out the "Yaya" quarantine, the Shanghai Zoo has set up a dedicated quarantine site, including indoor animal sheds, outdoor sports fields, feed processing rooms, etc. The indoor animal sheds are equipped with air conditioning, and a sufficient amount of bamboo and complementary food is prepared. During the quarantine period, the expert team of Beijing Zoo will be stationed 24 hours a day to accompany "Yaya". In response to special circumstances such as her advanced age and changes in living environment, they will carefully take care of her breeding, health monitoring, diagnosis and treatment, and accompany her through a month of quarantine to adapt to her return home life as soon as possible. It is understood that China and the United States have achieved good results in breeding management, disease prevention and control, personnel training, public education, cultural exchanges, and other aspects in the past 20 years of cooperative research on giant pandas, playing a positive role in promoting endangered species conservation research and enhancing friendship between the Chinese and American peoples.
