2023-04-23
Guillaume Fry, CEO of European aircraft manufacturing giant Airbus, stated in a written interview with Xinhua News Agency that China's supply chain has shown strong resilience and competitiveness in the past three years. China is a very important strategic cooperation market for Airbus, and the Chinese supply chain is also an indispensable part of the global aviation industry. Airbus recently announced the construction of a second production line in Tianjin to expand the final assembly capacity of the A320 series aircraft. At present, Airbus has four A320 series aircraft final assembly facilities worldwide, located in Hamburg, Germany, Toulouse, Mobil, and Tianjin, China. Airbus Tianjin's first final assembly line was put into operation in 2008 and has now completed more than 600 aircraft. Fu Li stated that the new production line will be put into operation in 2025, driving Airbus' production capacity in Tianjin to double, while delivering more aircraft to Chinese and Asian customers, supporting Airbus' global industrial system's capacity improvement. He introduced that Airbus hopes to achieve a monthly production rate of 75 aircraft by 2026 to meet the needs of global customers. He said that today, China accounts for about 20% of the global civil aircraft market, which is one of the fastest growing markets in the world. Airbus predicts that in the next 20 years, the average annual growth rate of China's air transportation volume will reach 5.3%, significantly higher than the world average of 3.6%. By 2040, the Chinese market will require over 8000 passenger and cargo aircraft. Recently, Airbus signed a memorandum of cooperation with China Aviation Fuel Group Co., Ltd., which will strengthen the cooperation between China and Europe in the production, application and establishment of common standards of sustainable aviation fuel. Fu Li said that Airbus is concerned about the decarbonization of the aviation industry, and this cooperation with China will improve the local sustainable aviation fuel production, optimize the supply chain, and strive to increase the proportion of sustainable aviation fuel use to 10% by 2030. Last June, Airbus China R&D Center signed a contract to settle down in Suzhou Industrial Park. The center focuses on researching and developing hydrogen energy infrastructure, while also providing Airbus with advanced manufacturing, electrification, future cabin and new technology research and innovation services globally. Fu Li said that Airbus' goal is to launch hydrogen powered aircraft before 2035. When it comes to China's economic development, Fu Li said that he first came to China in 2003 and couldn't remember how many times he had visited China in the past 20 years. What impressed me the most was the energy, speed, optimism, and ability to develop rapidly demonstrated by China
