UN Secretary General Guterres called on Sudan's warring parties to cease fire for at least three days during the Eid al Fitr holiday to allow trapped civilians to escape the fighting, seek medical treatment, or obtain food and other critical supplies. Guterres participated in a video conference on the situation in Sudan convened by the African Union on the same day. He made the above call in a speech to the media after the meeting and stated that he is making every effort to achieve a ceasefire. He emphasized that after the ceasefire, all parties must engage in serious dialogue until the political transition is successfully completed. Guterres expressed serious concern about the large number of civilian casualties in Sudan, the severe humanitarian situation, and the possibility of further escalation of the war, and expressed concern about the safety of United Nations personnel in Sudan. He urged all parties to unite and put pressure on the belligerents to achieve a ceasefire. The armed conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces began on April 15th. The conflict first broke out at the Rapid Support Forces Command in the southern suburbs of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and quickly spread to the entire city of Khartoum and other states. The direct cause of this conflict is the dissatisfaction of the rapid support forces with the integration of the rapid support forces into the army in the military reform plan. (New News Agency)
