According to the website of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Education recently announced the results of undergraduate major registration and approval for ordinary higher education institutions in 2022, adding 1641 new registered majors and 176 approved majors (including 150 nationally controlled majors and 21 new majors outside the catalog), and adjusting 62 degree granting categories or years of study majors. The majors registered, approved, and adjusted this time will be included in the 2023 undergraduate enrollment plan of relevant universities. In addition, 925 professional sites that some universities have applied for revocation will be recorded. The Ministry of Education actively guides colleges and universities to open related majors urgently needed for national strategy and regional development. This time, 21 new majors were added, including Earth system science, Biostatistics, Future Robotics, Work Safety Supervision, National Park Construction and Management, Medical Engineering, Rural Governance, Family Education, Barrier free Management, and were officially included in the Undergraduate Specialty Catalog of Ordinary Colleges and Universities. In order to support universities in actively exploring and promoting the integration of disciplines and majors, and cultivating compound and top-notch innovative talents, cross engineering majors have been added for the first time under the engineering category. As of now, the undergraduate major catalog includes a total of 93 major categories and 792 majors. According to statistics, the addition, revocation, and adjustment of this major involve more than 2800 professional locations, accounting for 4.5% of the current total number of professional locations. From the perspective of disciplinary categories, engineering involves the largest number of majors, with 1074; From the perspective of regional layout, there are 1503 majors involving universities in the central and western regions, accounting for over 50%.
