Public Security Organs Deeply Carry out a Three Year Special Action to Protect Wild Animals and Protect the Beauty of Diversity

After a spring snow, Erlang Mountain in Tianquan County, Ya'an, Sichuan Province is covered in silver. Snow wrapped the branches and clouds enveloped the people. Starting from the foot of the mountain and winding up the mountain, there are several bird calls from time to time in the quiet Laba River Nature Reserve, and the deep and shallow footprints of water deer hooves are clearly visible. On the way, there are occasional macaques who are curious to watch guests visiting the mountains. People who shuttle through mountain roads breathe cool fresh air and feel the ecological landscape of harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature. A good ecological environment and rich animal and plant resources cannot be separated from the joint protection of multiple departments such as the public security organs. In recent years, the Tianquan County Public Security Bureau has established a Panda Police Brigade to improve the mechanism of regional cooperation, departmental linkage, synthetic warfare, remote mountain patrol, and mass prevention and control. It has successively investigated multiple cases of rare and endangered wild animals under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Security, and effectively escorted the construction of the Giant Panda National Park. This is a reflection of the remarkable results achieved by the national public security organs in carrying out a three-year special campaign to combat wildlife related crimes. According to a spokesman from the Ministry of Public Security, from 2020 to 2022, local public security organs, together with relevant departments, strictly cracked down on and punished various criminal activities involving wild animals in accordance with the law, resolutely maintained biodiversity, and effectively promoted source control and ecological protection. Field patrol effectively protects the wildlife resources in key areas. In the area under the jurisdiction of Baidaoshan Police Station of Suiyang Branch of Heilongjiang Forestry District Public Security Bureau, red deer, foxes, and even tigers and leopards frequently appear, and there are abundant wildlife resources. In order to maintain the ecological environment in the jurisdiction and combat illegal poaching, police officers conduct patrols almost every day, and occasionally conduct night patrols in key areas. Four or five people lined up in a row, two or three meters apart, making a trip of twenty or thirty kilometers for seven or eight hours. Experienced veteran team members explored the way in front of the team, and each person accompanying them carried a bag filled with police equipment and dry food. "On the way, the team members will record the ecological and environmental information such as the vegetation status and animal feces along the way, promptly clean up the hunting clips and traps set by illegal elements, and create a safe home for wild animals. At the same time, we will regularly put corn stalks, corn sticks, soybeans, and other food in places where wild animals often appear." Teng Lizhi, director of the Baidao Mountain Police Station, said. After participating in patrols for many times, many police officers have become "soil experts" in the field of wildlife protection. "Field patrol can not only detect and stop some acts of destroying wildlife resources, effectively prevent crimes of destroying wildlife resources, but also monitor the species and population of wildlife in the area, find out the 'family background', and promptly treat injured animals," said Hou Senlin, a professor at Nanjing Forest Police College. Every winter, the Tianquan County Panda Police Brigade will organize a team of more than 10 people to carry out remote mountain patrols in conjunction with the Erlang Mountain state-owned forest farm, the Laba River Nature Reserve Management Office, and other units. "Every year, five patrols are carried out with a focus on winter, covering an area of 600 square kilometers. Through perseverance and efforts in recent years, the remote mountain patrols have killed two poaching and illegal logging gangs, cleaned up 230 hunting clips and sets, and collected more than 6000 pieces of data." said Luo Hongkang, Deputy County Mayor of Tianquan County, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Public Security Bureau. During a patrol, the team members
