"Living Lei Feng" in Lei Feng's hometown
2023-03-20
Walking into the barracks of the Wangcheng Squadron of the Changsha Detachment of the Hunan Armed Police Corps, a tall statue of Lei Feng stood upright in front of him, with the smiling young face shining like a ray of sunlight on the barracks. Staying in the hometown of Lei Feng, the Wangcheng Squadron has been carrying forward the spirit of Lei Feng for 60 years, continuing to write the story of Lei Feng in the new era with practical actions. In the honor room of the squadron, an exhibition cabinet with various cover diary books is particularly eye-catching. "This is a special gift that every officer and soldier will receive." Brigade leader Yang Yong introduced that every time a new soldier enters the camp, a new platoon leader arrives, and other opportunities, everyone will receive such a diary. On display here are 53 "Lei Feng Diaries" written by officers and soldiers with a total of over 300000 words. Over the past 60 years, the cover has changed from linoleum paper to red satin, and the paper has changed from yellowing and curling to brand new and original. What has changed is the style, but what has not changed is the pursuit. "To learn from Lei Feng is to learn to be a good person and to do more good things in ordinary life." "As an ordinary soldier, I want to take the gun in Lei Feng's hand and burn my youth in an ordinary position..." Turning over a diary of officers and soldiers, sentence by sentence, they express their firm belief in inheriting Lei Feng's spirit and being a good successor to Lei Feng. In recent years, the squadron has completed one urgent, difficult, and dangerous task after another: In July 2017, the water level of the Caijiazhou Hydropower Station, the Xiangjiang River navigation and power hub, was critical. The squadron's officers and soldiers struggled all day and night, carrying over 8000 bags of sand bags, and constructing a flood control dam over 100 meters long for the main building of the power station; At the end of 2022, a fire broke out in a certain place in Hunan. Long Zhipeng, the captain of the squadron, led over 20 officers and soldiers to the scene in a rapid and mobile manner, and fought for over 50 hours continuously, putting out a total of 23 fire spots... "The spirit of Lei Feng has illuminated the hearts of generations of officers and soldiers of the Wangcheng Squadron, not only rooted in the hot military camp, but also spread to the motherland." Chen Huijun, the political commissar of the detachment, said. Last March, the Wangcheng Squadron received a letter from Gao Kun, a member of the Chongqing Armed Police Corps. The letter arrived with a donation of 1000 yuan from the "Lei Feng Fund". Five years ago, Gao Kun's father died of illness, and his mother's meager salary was unable to support the family's heavy burden. After the squadron learned about the situation, Gao Kun was included in the "Lei Feng Fund" funding list to support him in completing high school studies. After entering college, Gao Kun joined the military with a pen and wore olive green. The donation from the "Lei Feng Fund" was his first allowance after joining the army. "Because I have received your help, I hope to become a person like you, pass on Lei Feng's spirit, and help more people." "The 'Lei Feng Fund' was spontaneously established by the officers and soldiers of the squadron, and the funding source is mainly voluntary contributions from the officers and soldiers." The squadron's instructor Ouyang Zhi introduced that at present, he has donated more than 600000 yuan in total, helping more than 30 impoverished students complete their studies, and more than 60 elderly people living alone and widowed in their old age. Many officers and soldiers of the Wangcheng Squadron also take advantage of their break time to provide voluntary explanations to the Lei Feng Memorial Hall, street communities, schools, and enterprises. Since the establishment of the voluntary propaganda team in March 1995, more than 80 people have become volunteer interpreters at the Lei Feng Memorial Hall, and more than 50 people have been hired as class teachers and counselors outside the school. In total, they have told the story of Lei Feng to millions of tourists both inside and outside the province, and are affectionately known by the masses as "the living thunder of Lei Feng's hometown"
