The reporter learned from the Liye Administrative Area in Longshan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province that the ruins of the ancient city of Liye, where about 38000 Qin slips were unearthed in 2002, were recently reopened for archaeological exploration after a lapse of 21 years. "This archaeological exploration will provide basic materials and data support for the revision and subsequent archaeological excavation and cultural heritage protection work." Tian Dazhi, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Riye Administrative Region, introduced that in order to further strengthen the protection and utilization of the ancient city ruins, the Riye Ancient City Heritage Protection Plan is undergoing revision work. "There were three ancient cities distributed in the Liye Basin, and there has been no systematic archaeological work before, so its nature and value need to be confirmed through exploration." According to Long Jingsha, an archaeologist and the host of the excavation of Well 1 in the Liye Ancient City, during the rescue excavation of that year, it has been determined that there are more Qin Dynasty cultural relics under the site. This resumption of archaeological exploration is conducive to understanding the basic situation of the burial of cultural relics at the ancient city site of Liye, clarifying the quantity and layout of unearthed cultural relics, and providing a basis for subsequent research and protection. In 2002, nearly 38000 Qin Dynasty bamboo slips were unearthed in Liye Town, Longshan County, causing concern. The Liye Qin Bamboo Slips, with a total of over 200000 words, provide a detailed record of the political, economic, and social life of the Qin Dynasty, providing valuable historical data for the study of the Qin Dynasty, and also providing an important witness for the study of the multi-ethnic centralized governance model. Archaeological experts say that with the development of archaeological technology, the conditions for restarting archaeological exploration are ripe. It is understood that this archaeological exploration is jointly chaired by the Archaeological Research and Cultural Heritage Protection Center of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and the Management Committee of Longshan County Liye Administrative Region. It is expected to complete the field archaeological investigation and exploration work in June this year. (Liao Xinshe)
