2023-03-16

Du Yang photographed the opening ceremony of "Like Fragrant Hills: Gandhara Art Exhibition" at the exhibition site, which was held at the Palace Museum on the 15th. This is the largest Gandhara art exhibition ever held in China. At the exhibition site, Du Yang selected 203 pieces (sets) of cultural relics from Pakistan and the Palace Museum. Among them, 173 pieces (sets) of cultural relics from Pakistan are from the National Museum of Pakistan, the Taksila Museum, the Peshawar Museum, the Islamabad Museum, the Deer Museum, the Swat Museum and the Hund Museum. Most of these cultural relics were excavated by archaeology, ranging from the 2nd century BC to the 10th century AD. In addition to Gandhara stone carving art such as early Buddha and Bodhisattva statues, Buddha biographical stories, Buddha Bunsen stories, and pagoda building components, there are also gold and silver artifacts and jewelry, which fully demonstrate the diversity of Gandhara art style and its artistic charm, as well as the historical features of multicultural blending. The Palace Museum has 30 pieces (sets) of cultural relics, most of which are from the ancient Gandhara region to the western part of Tibet through the art centers of Swat and Kashmir on the plateau Silk Road. These cultural relics have a strong impact on the style and art of the gold and bronze statues in the Kingdom of Gug, and show the long history of cultural and artistic exchanges between China and Pakistan. The exhibition consists of three units: "Fragrance: the birth of Gandhara civilization under multiculturalism", "the brilliance of Gandhara art" and "the afterglow of Gandhara art". From the perspective of the development of ancient Gandhara civilization, the exhibition shows the artistic charm and influence of Gandhara culture to the audience. Duyang Photography Exhibition Site Duyang Photography Exhibition was co-sponsored by the Palace Museum and the Bureau of Archaeology and Museum of the National Heritage and Cultural Administration of Pakistan. The preparation began in 2019, during which the exhibition period was postponed for many times due to force majeure. The project was included in the Joint Statement of the People's Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in February and November 2022, which was welcomed by the leaders of the two countries. Chinese Minister of Culture and Tourism Hu Heping announced the opening ceremony. The exhibition will be held in the Wenhua Hall of the Palace Museum until June 15. (Xinhua News Agency)
