The Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology recently officially announced the archaeological excavation results of the Jishangdong Canal Site in Yuncheng, Shanxi Province: a large number of animal and plant remains unearthed show that the ancestors of Dongqu have mastered relatively developed agricultural production technology, and formed a mixed agricultural production system that focuses on planting millet and concurrently engages in animal husbandry. Combined with the legend of "Houji" in Jishan area, the discovery of a large number of agricultural remains may be the archaeological evidence of "Houji people's farming in Jishan". Dongqu Site is located in the north of Dongqu Village, Jishan County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province. The site is about 2 kilometers away from the Fenhe River in the south and about 7 kilometers away from Luliang Mountain in the north. It has been proved that the area is about 100000 square meters. In 2021 and 2022, the Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology and the Yuncheng Cultural Relics Protection Center carried out archaeological excavations on the site twice. A total of 2 houses, 2 ceramic kilns, 1 ash ditch and 43 ash pits were found. The relics were pottery, stone, bone, jade, mussel, etc. Among them, most of them are pottery, with the shapes of high collar lace double li, single li, small mouth drum belly pot, large mouth zun, small mouth zun, pottery basin, pottery plate, pottery bean, single ear pot, egg-shaped urn, pottery yan, round bottom pot, pottery cup, pottery he, pottery jue, etc., and a small number of painted pottery chips are also found. Stone tools include stone knives, stone shovels, stone arrowheads, stone adzes, etc. At the same time, a large number of stone materials and stone processing residues were found. The bone implements are mainly arrowheads, including a few bone shovels, bone needles, bone hairpins, etc. In addition, a jade axe and a copper sabre were also found. It is particularly important that, in addition to artificial products, there are also abundant animal and plant remains in the Dongqu site. 250000 charred plant seeds have been flotation, and 14050 millet seeds have been flotation from only one sample in H46. According to the preliminary study, the carbonized seeds of crops in Dongqu Site include millet, millet, rice, soybean, etc., mainly millet. In addition, a large number of animal bones have been found, including cattle, pigs, sheep, etc. Seen from the unearthed relics, the Dongqu Site was in the Xia period and belonged to the Dongxiafeng culture. The excavation of the Dongqu site fills the gap in the study of Xia culture in the west of Linfen basin. From the scale of the site and the unearthed relics of Tao He, Tao Jue, Yu Yue, copper Dao, painted pottery, etc., it should be a core settlement in the region. The relics represented by the high-necked lace double tripod show the complex and diverse cultural features of southern Shanxi in the Xia Dynasty, which is of great academic value for displaying the history of the Xia Dynasty and studying the cultural pattern of southern Shanxi in the Xia Dynasty.
