Strive to expand the capacity of the "trillion yuan club" city in 2023
2023-02-06
With the release of 2022 GDP data from various regions, the economic landscape of cities in mainland China has been gradually outlined. On the whole, there will be no new members in the "trillion yuan club" cities in 2022, and it is still composed of 24 cities in a four-echelon formation, mainly distributed in the eastern and southern regions of China. Song Xiangqing, vice president of the Institute of Government Management of Beijing Normal University and director of the Industrial Economics Research Center, told the Securities Daily that in terms of economic scale expansion and speed improvement, cities are catching up with each other, which is the new normal of China's development, and also the new weather of China's rapid economic development in the past decades. It is the biggest implication of China's growing prosperity and strength after the reform and opening up. The four-echelon construction of the overall pattern and the constant strength of the eastern region obviously promote the effective improvement of the quality and the reasonable growth of the quantity of the economy, which is the internal requirement of the high-quality development of China's economy. GDP, as the direct expression of the reasonable growth of quantity, reflects the competitiveness and vitality of all regions. Therefore, hitting the "trillion yuan club" of GDP is one of the development goals of many cities. According to the data, the number of cities listed in the "trillion yuan club" of GDP in 2022 is the same as that of the previous year, and remains 24. They are: Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Jiangsu, Chengdu, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Tianjin, Ningbo, Zhejiang, Qingdao, Shandong, Wuxi, Changsha, Zhengzhou, Foshan, Fuzhou, Fujian, Quanzhou, Jinan, Hefei, Xi'an, Nantong, Jiangsu, Dongguan, Guangdong. Based on the GDP values of the above 24 cities, the overall pattern can be divided into four echelons. Shanghai and Beijing, two municipalities directly under the Central Government, formed the first echelon with 4465.28 billion yuan and 4161.09 billion yuan respectively; Shenzhen occupies the 3 trillion yuan range with 3238768 billion yuan, forming the second echelon; The third tier cities are composed of four cities, namely Chongqing (2912903 billion yuan), Guangzhou (2883.9 billion yuan), Suzhou (2395.83 billion yuan) and Chengdu (2081.75 billion yuan); The remaining 17 cities are in the range of 1 trillion yuan to 2 trillion yuan, forming the fourth echelon. From the perspective of geographical distribution, the pattern of constant strength in the east is particularly obvious. The data shows that there are only 7 cities in the central and western regions of the 24 cities (Zhengzhou, Hefei, Wuhan, Changsha, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an), and the remaining 17 cities are from the eastern coastal areas, accounting for more than 70%. Compared with 2021, although the list of "trillion yuan clubs" has not been added in 2022, the ranking has changed significantly. Among them, Chongqing surpassed Guangzhou for the first time, and its GDP ranked fourth among mainland cities in China. This is also the first time that western cities have entered the economic "first-tier cities". In addition, in the top ten, Wuhan is ranked eighth in the anti-overtaking of Hangzhou. Liu Xiangdong, deputy director of the Economic Research Department of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, told the Securities Daily that the economic growth of Chongqing and Wuhan was mainly driven by investment and industrial growth, while the economic growth of cities such as Guangzhou and Hangzhou was mainly affected by the slowdown or decline in the growth of consumption and service industries, and Guangzhou was also affected by the growth of investment, so the overall performance of the economic situation was less than expected.
