Lu Jialun is making pottery pots. After more than 10 years of painstaking research, Lu Jialun, a master of ceramic art in Fujian Province and a representative inheritor of provincial intangible cultural heritage, has successfully restored the production technology of thin body paste glaze ware. His hand is elegant and simple. In 2017, it set a record of 0.3mm in thickness, which is equivalent to egg shell. In Huangshi Village, Changle District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, a row of ceramic art studios under the olive tree are filled with jars of various shapes, one of which is more than ten centimeters in size, elegant, regular and simple in shape. The thickness of the ceramic wall is only 0.3 mm, which is equivalent to the thickness of the egg shell! These exquisite ceramics are made by Lu Jialun, a master of ceramic art in Fujian Province and a representative inheritor of provincial intangible cultural heritage. After nearly 10 years of painstaking research, Lu Jialun has successfully restored the art of thin body paste glaze ware. The thin body paste glaze ware was originally produced in Hongtang kiln in Fuzhou, and was widely used by scholars and scholars in the Song and Yuan dynasties. Later, due to the changes of times, it gradually disappeared, and the production technology gradually lost. In the 1990s, a Song Dynasty pottery pot was unearthed during the renovation of Fuzhou Sanfang and Qixiang, with a very thin wall and a thickness of about 1mm. Lu Jialun was fascinated by the art of making thin-body pottery... In order to restore the ancient art, in 2006, Lu Jialun went to Dingshu Town, Yixing, Jiangsu Province to study for one year, specializing in fine clay pottery. After returning to Rong, he turned over historical materials, drew drawings and tried to make them. "At the beginning, the broken pottery was dumped by a cart." Lu Jialun said that after more than 10 years of sharpening, in 2017, his work set a record of the thinnest 0.3 mm. The rate of finished products is only about 3% when making thin pottery. "The key is to be calm and steady." Lu Jialun said that shaking hands can distort the blank. When the thickness of the blank is less than 1mm, it is the most difficult to maintain the shape; The process shall be completed at one time without interruption or blank repair. If you are not careful, the tyre wall will collapse or distort. Lu Jialun's requirements for using mud are almost strict. The mud must be taken from the Hongtang area in Fuzhou. The mud on the river channel formed by the Minjiang River is fine in texture and good in viscosity. After several months of aging and oxidation, and repeated washing, mud refining and proportioning, the material can be made into fine mud. With the prepared refined mud, Lu Jialun began to operate skillfully on the turntable, and all kinds of self-made tools came into use. Centering, opening, drawing, belly bulge, mouth tucking, shoulder folding, mouth curling, waist line making... He is meticulous, sensing and controlling the thickness of the body with his fingers, and mastering the critical point of molding, exactly. "When challenging extremely thin works, every step is crucial. When the mud body is about to collapse, the craftsman should mobilize all his strength to rescue it." Lu Jialun said, "It's good to get up in the morning and do it eight hours a day. You should be careful and not hurry." After the blank drawing, dry it in the shade, glaze it, and fire it. Firing is also one of the important links. The furnace temperature must be well controlled, and it should be slowly increased and decreased to ensure that the expansion and contraction of the tire and glaze are synchronized, so that they can be organically integrated to prevent cracking. Lu Jialun used the fine works of Fuzhou Hongtang Kiln collected by foreign museums as a reference for restoration, and constantly compared and improved the works. His restorations have bright glaze and round shape
