The repair and upgrading project of the Walvis Bay to Alandis Railway in Namibia, undertaken by China Energy Construction Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd., was completed on the 17th. According to Li Lijie, the project manager of the Namibia Railway Repair Project Department of China Energy Construction Gezhouba Group and the general manager of Namibia Co., Ltd., on the 17th, the Walvis Bay to Alandis Railway Repair and Upgrade Project is located on the west coast of Namibia, with a total length of nearly 110 kilometers. Before the start of the repair project, the railway had been in use for nearly a hundred years, and the train speed was not more than 40 kilometers per hour. After the connection, the train can pass at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Li Lijie said that after the project was started at the end of November 2020, the enterprise overcame the impact of many adverse conditions, such as the COVID-19, frequent strong wind and sandstorm weather, and insufficient supply of local materials. While completing the project with quality and quantity guaranteed, it also provided more than 500 jobs and trained a group of skilled workers. Naiko Nekundi, deputy minister of the Ministry of Engineering and Transport of Namibia, said during a recent inspection of the project site that the railway repair project is an important project in the vision plan of the Namibian government for 2030. After completion, it will improve the transportation capacity along the line and drive the economic development along the line. Namibia is located in southwest Africa, adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. In 2004, the National Development 2030 Vision Plan adopted by the Namibian government mentioned that Namibia will be developed into a transport and logistics hub in southern Africa, including improving the transport capacity of the railway network.
