The 2022 annual meeting of the floating needle professional committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies was held in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province a few days ago. The meeting was hosted by the Floating Needle Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies and co-organized by the Floating Needle Professional Committee of the Hebei Association of Chinese Medicine. Han Jisheng, an academician of the CAS Member, said that the floating needle, as a new type of acupuncture and moxibustion, has gained many recognition by virtue of its clinical efficacy. Looking forward to the future, further development requires a clear understanding that clinical and scientific research complement each other. Acupuncture and moxibustion should not only be effective, but also reasonable. For decades, one of the important reasons why acupuncture and moxibustion therapy can go abroad and set off a fever of acupuncture and moxibustion around the world is that the scientific research of acupuncture and moxibustion has achieved remarkable results, which show its scientific value to the people of the world. Therefore, whether floating acupuncture or traditional acupuncture, we should continue to uphold the spirit of scientific research, find its treatment laws through scientific strength and methods, and inject new scientific connotation into ancient acupuncture with the help of modern technology, so as to promote the rapid development of acupuncture in the world. Fu Zhonghua, director of the floating needle research institute of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said that in the past 26 years, floating needle medicine has adopted the methodology of "following the tradition, reducing the complexity to simplicity, looking forward to the future, keeping the integrity and integrating the new", regardless of clinical, scientific research, teaching, or needle research. The invention of the floating needle is inspired by the description of "straight acupuncture" in the Huangdi Internal Classic. The continuous improvement of the floating needle medical theory, especially the introduction of the new theory of qi and blood, is also a rethinking and simplification of the traditional Chinese medicine theory. These processes of "reducing complexity to simplicity" make floating needle both effective and reasonable, that is, it is not only clinically effective, but also uses modern scientific language to explain why it is effective.
